Here’s an excellent grammatical tip-of-the-day:

It’s – versus – Its

The first is a contraction, meaning “it is.” The second is a possessive.The key in determining which to use is figuring out if you can replace it with “it is.” If you can, you should use it’s. If you can’t, you should use its.
